BREAKING ISOLATION:
ENGAGING & EMPOWERING OLDER WOMEN
AGAINST VIOLENCE AND ABUSE
Calling older women of colour, newcomers and women with disabilities to participate in a series of interactive workshops that provide:
- Access to information
- Enhancement of support networks
- Break away from social isolation
- Exploration of strategies to help plan for physical safety
- Creating financial security
- Improvement of overall health and well-being
The project, sponsored by BC Centre for Elder Advocacy and Support (BCCEAS), aims to:
- Engage and empower older women of colour, newcomers, and those with disabilities by increasing their awareness about violence and abuse;
- Assist them in developing safety plans and resistance strategies and tools;
- Enhance their knowledge and connections to community resources, including information about government benefits; and
- Help them achieve financial security and independence through the use of financial tools and strategies
