If you are a fan of Cantonese OperaThe Cantonese opera (Chinese: 粵劇) is one of the major categories in Chinese opera which features music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics and acting. It is also known as “Guangdong Drama” since it is the dominant form of opera found in Guangdong region. The origin of Cantonese opera can be dated back to the reign of Emperor Jiajing (1522-1566) of the Ming Dynasty. Most of the plots are based on Chinese history and famous Chinese classics and myths. Also, the culture and philosophies of the Chinese people can be seen in the plays and virtues (like loyalty, love, patriotism and faithfulness) are often reflected by the operas., and a supporter of the RCD, you will be ecstatic to find out this opportunity to involve both.

Thank you to the Harmony Cultural Arts SocietyRCDHarmony Cultural Arts Society is a local, non-profit volunteer organization that performs and promotes traditional Cantonese opera. It is formed by a group of passionate individuals with dedication to bring new elements to the Chinese opera. As showcased by their attractive logo that represents a more modern feel and creates a new aesthetic to Chinese culture. Their goal is to attract more audience to enjoy the beauty and elegance of traditional Cantonese opera. , they are donating their ticket proceeds to benefit the Richmond Centre for Disability, in their upcoming performance at the Michael J Fox Theatre on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

When you buy a ticket to the performance from the RCD, all the ticket proceeds will be donated to the RCD for providing services and programs to people with disabilities.

You don’t need to understand Cantonese or be familiar with the stories of Chinese history and mythology from which these dramas are written to enjoy it. The performances alone are entertainment enough, with their spectacle of colourful costumes, extravagant sets and famously unique style of singing.

Tickets:
Tickets are sold at $50, $40 or $25, limited seats are available. RCD members will enjoy a 10% discount on the ticket purchase, i.e. at $45, $36 and $23 respectively.

Limited wheelchair seats are offered, at $30 per ticket; one attendant ticket at $30 can be purchased together and must be ordered at the same time, until stock lasts.

There are 3 ways of purchasing tickets:

  2. Call Kathie at 604-232-2404 for ticket purchase with your credit card, or
  3. Come to RCD Office in person, with payment (cash, debit or credit) and pick up the tickets.
