For the 2021 tax season, the RCD is hosting free tax clinic, under the CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), where eligible people can get tax returns done for free by volunteers.

 

Dates: March 8 to April 28, 2021

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the RCD is implementing various safety measures to protect everyone, thus some modifications to the tax clinic process. There is no more on-site processing; all documentations are provided to the RCD either by dropping off in person, by email or fax. After processing and filing of tax return by volunteers, you will be informed of the outcome.

Signing-Up Procedures

1 - Eligibility screening is mandatory, there are multiple ways of doing this:

• Call RCD at 604-232-2404 for Kathie or Jare; or
• Email taxfiling@rcdrichmond.org
• In person at the RCD Office (Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

2 - Once confirmed to proceed, submit all relevant documentations, together with the completed RCD Personal Information Form

• Complete the RCD Personal Information Form
• Submit all relevant documentations by fax, or scanned to email, or drop-off in person

3 - During Income Tax Filing – Kathie or Jare will make contact if there is any issue to discuss

4 - After Income Tax Filing – Kathie or Jare will provide the submission summary via a
communication of your choice (email, fax, pick-up, or mail)

• RCD will delete all personal information after income tax filing

• Maximum total family income applies
  - 1 person: $35,000
  - 2 persons: $45,000
  - 3 persons: $47,500
  - 4 persons: $50,000
  - 5 persons: $52,500
• Simple tax situation
  - No income, or
  - Income comes from employment, pension, benefits, support payments, scholarships, interest (under $1,000)

Ineligible tax situations:

• Self-employment income or employment expenses
• Business or rental income and expenses
• Interest income over $1,000
• Capital gains or losses
• Foreign property (T1135)
• Bankrupt individuals in the year of bankruptcy
• Deceased individuals

Important Note: do not sign-up if you are ineligible, to reserve resources to people who are; you may be turned away.
