From November 15 to 19, 2023 the RCD will be hosting its 15th annual wheelchair curling bonspiel tournament – 2023 Canadian Open. 

RCD Bonspiel Background

Wheelchair curling tournaments have been staged at the Paralympics since the Winter Paralympic Games in 2006 in Turin. The 2022 Winter Paralympics was held from March 5 to 12, 2022 in Beijing, China. Gold medal went to Team China, Silver to Team Sweden and Bronze to Team Canada. As of May 2023, the current Wheelchair World Rankings Top Five are in the order of: China, Canada, Sweden, Korea and Scotland/Great Britain.

The RCD 2022 Wheechair Bonspiel was a great success, after missing the tournament for two year. Team Canada National Program Red won the gold medal, Team Seoul the silven medal and Team USA the bronze medal. The RCD strives to make this event nationally and internationally acclaimed and hope to attract more audiences and to help bringing wheelchair curling global presence to Richmond.
